Senior swimmer Rebecca McEachern(Star City, Ark.) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon (May 16).
McEachern is one of 10 honorees from Region Six, which comprises NCAA Division I institutions from the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
“There is no one more deserving of academic recognition than Rebecca,” head swimming and diving coach Amy Burgess said. “She is a great example of what can be accomplished from the hard work dedication of our student-athletes.
“We are very proud and honored to have had her as part of our program for the last four years,” Burgess added.
McEachern, who holds a 4.0 GPA, received the 2013 Betty Jo Stephens scholarship from UALR. The award goes to a student-athlete which shows leadership, character, competitiveness and academic success. She will receive her master’s degree in accounting from UALR in December of 2013.
This season in the pool, McEachern was a part of three championship relay teams and scored 24 points individually as UALR captured the Henderson State Invite (Nov. 9-10, 2012). She also swam on the 200 free relay team that had a season-best time of 1:35.32 at the Sun Belt Championships (Feb. 27-March 2).
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced June 6.
